Programme Outline and Aims Accoridion Arrow

This course introduces students to the meanings and guidance of the last ten surahs of Juz ‘Amma, from Surah al-Fil to Surah an-Nas. Students will study the central themes of each surah, relevant vocabulary, reasons for revelation where applicable, and practical lessons for belief, worship and daily conduct. The course is taught in English with reference to the Arabic text and a focus on accessible, principled understanding.

This course aims for learners to:

  • To introduce students to foundational principles for studying the meanings of the Qur’an
  • To examine the themes, vocabulary and guidance of the last ten surahs of Juz ‘Amma
  • To support reflective engagement with short surahs commonly recited in prayer and daily worship

Skills and knowledge

On successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Identify the order, names and central themes of the last ten surahs of Juz ‘Amma
  2. Explain the general meaning and message of each surah studied
  3. Recognise selected key Arabic words and Qur’anic expressions within the surahs
  4. Describe how context, structure and theme contribute to understanding short Qur’anic chapters
  5. Relate the guidance of the surahs to belief, worship, gratitude, sincerity and protection from harm
  6. Demonstrate respectful and disciplined engagement with tafsir through discussion, reflection and revision
