Programme Outline And Aims Accoridion Arrow

This module will examine the Pre-Islamic era and study the context into which the Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him) was born. Further study will include an analysis of his life, emigration, teachings and methodology, setting up of the first Muslim State, his governance, and finally, his demise and succession.

This course aims for learners to

  • To detail the historical beginnings of Islam
  • To introduce classical and contemporary biographical works relevant to the module
  • To introduce the process and steps taken to codify this subject and explain the scope of academic differences found therein

On successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate understanding of the socio-political context in which Islam began
  2. Evaluate the implications of key political and dogmatic themes in early Islam
  3. Explain the nature of the struggles and tribulations faced by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)
  4. Assess a variety of historical sources relevant to the study of Prophetic Biography
