Women’s Hadith Course 2026

This course introduces students to the study of Hadith through Imam al-Nawawi’s Forty Hadith, with attention to the meanings, legal principles, ethical guidance and spiritual foundations contained in the collection. Students will study selected reports in their textual context, learn key terminology used by Hadith scholars, and consider how Prophetic guidance informs worship, character, family life and community responsibility.

This course aims for learners to:

• Introduce students to the purpose, structure and themes of Imam al-Nawawi’s Forty Hadith
• Develop an informed understanding of core Prophetic teachings relating to faith, worship, conduct and social responsibility
• Build confidence in reading, discussing and applying Hadith in a disciplined and reflective manner

Skills and knowledge

On successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

1. Explain the role of Hadith in the formation of Islamic belief, worship and ethical practice
2. Identify key themes and principles found in Imam al-Nawawi’s Forty Hadith
3. Summarise the meanings of selected Hadiths and relate them to practical religious life
4. Distinguish between literal meaning, scholarly explanation and personal reflection when discussing Hadith
5. Demonstrate awareness of etiquette, sincerity and intention in seeking and transmitting sacred knowledge
6. Apply selected Prophetic teachings to personal conduct, family relations and community engagement
